To continue our progress towards Net Zero by 2050, we have set the following targets.
We project that our carbon emissions will decrease over the next five years to 2.46 tCO2e by 2030/31. This is a reduction of 20% against our 2024/25 baseline.
Progress against this target (tCO2e):

Year                  Projected Total Emissions (tCO2e)           Reduction Against Baseline
2026/27                                           2.95                                          4%

Completed projects
The following measures have been completed or implemented since the baseline year. The associated emissions savings are expected to be maintained or built on in future years.

  • Hybrid working, which reduces the number of journeys staff make to work
  • Allocating customers to staff within 1 to 2 miles, which keeps work journeys short and allows walking
  • Encouraging staff to walk or cycle to customer visits and to work where they can
  • Encouraging staff to car share when driving to work

Planned projects
We plan to implement the following measures in the coming years.

  • Continue hybrid working and keep customer allocation within 1 to 2 miles of staff
  • Keep promoting walking, cycling and car sharing, and review how many staff use them each year
  • Review our commuting and business mileage data every year and update this plan

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been completed in accordance with PPN 06/21 and associated guidance and reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans. Emissions have been reported and recorded in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the GHG Reporting Protocol Corporate Standard and use the appropriate UK Government emission conversion factors for greenhouse gas company reporting. Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions have been reported in accordance with SECR requirements, and the required subset of Scope 3 emissions has been reported in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard.

Commitment to achieving Net Zero

Carbon reduction projects

Hertsmere Valley Care Services Limited is committed to achieving Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. We will measure, report and reduce our emissions across Scope 1, Scope 2 and the required subset of Scope 3, and we will publish an updated plan every year.

Reporting year: 2025/26 (1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026)

Emissions                                     Total (tCO2e)
Scope 1                                          0.00
Scope 2                                          0.18
Scope 3 (included sources)           2.87
Total emissions                            3.05

Total emissions are broadly unchanged from the baseline (3.07 to 3.05 tCO2e). The small fall reflects a lower UK electricity emissions factor. Employee commuting is the largest source and is an estimate based on six staff driving an average of 3.5 miles each way, five days a week, for about 46 weeks a year.

Our baseline emissions are the reference point against which we measure progress towards our reduction targets.

Baseline year: 2024/25 (1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025)

Why this baseline year was chosen: It is the year in which carbon reduction planning started within our organisation (2024).

Organisational boundary and approach: We report on the premises and activities we operate. We have no company vehicles and no gas supply. Scope 2 covers electricity at our premises (about 1,000 kWh a year). Scope 3 covers staff business travel in their own vehicles (about 1,000 miles a year) and employee commuting (six staff who drive to work, estimated from average commuting distance). Emissions are calculated using the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard and the UK Government GHG conversion factors for company reporting: the 2024 edition for 2024/25 and the 2025 edition for 2025/26.

Emissions                                     Total (tCO2e)
Scope 1                                          0.00
Scope 2                                          0.21
Scope 3 (included sources)           2.86
Total emissions                            3.07

Scope 3 sources included: Business travel (staff using their own vehicles for work) and employee commuting (staff driving to work, estimated).
